#NationalBurnAwarenessWeek Highlights the Importance of Safety Around Flammable Liquids

Butler, PA —As #NationalBurnAwarenessWeek kicks off, Butler Township Volunteer Fire District joins in the nationwide effort to raise awareness about burn prevention and safety measures, with a particular focus on the risks associated with flammable liquids. This year's theme, "Flammable Liquids Burn," underscores the critical need for vigilance and caution in handling these substances to prevent devastating accidents.

According to the Butler Township Volunteer Fire District, incidents involving flammable liquids such as those used in grills, gas ranges, and household activities result in a significant number of burn-related injuries each year. To mitigate these risks, it is essential for individuals and families to adopt safety practices and protocols.

Here are some key safety tips to observe:

Maintain Clear Cooking Areas: Grills and gas ranges produce intense heat, making it crucial to keep the surrounding area clear of any flammable materials. Maintain a safe distance from combustible objects when using open flames.

Establish a "Kid-Free Zone": Create a designated area of at least 3 feet (1 meter) around the stove, grill, or any space where hot food or drinks are being prepared or transported. This ensures that children remain at a safe distance from potential sources of burns.

Avoid Holding Children While Cooking or Handling Hot Items: It's never safe to hold a child while engaged in activities that involve cooking, drinking hot liquids, or carrying hot foods. Prioritize the safety of both children and adults by avoiding these practices altogether.

Butler Township Volunteer Fire District urges everyone to take proactive measures to prevent burn injuries, especially during #NationalBurnAwarenessWeek. By following these safety guidelines and promoting awareness within our communities, we can work together to reduce the incidence of burn-related accidents and protect our loved ones.
